Exercise limitations for older adults/ In Home Care for Seniors

Many older people think that exercise is not practical or possible for them. Those who are in frail or weak health, or even in wheelchairs believe that they do not have the option to exercise.

However, fitness and exercise is available to everyone.

There are specific postures that are viable for elderly adults in weak condition, but as a general rule, light balance exercises and stretches are good for retaining the muscle strength and flexibility required in daily activities such as walking, driving, grocery shopping, and more.

Balance exercises can help you stay independent by helping you avoid the disabilities that could result from falling. Stretching exercises can give you more freedom of movement, which will allow you to be more active during your senior years. Stretching exercises alone, however,  will not improve your endurance or strength.

We at A-1 Home Care encourage you to seek out senior resources at the community center and consult your physician to better understand your physical capacities and limits.
